Chakka Puzhukku - Chakka Vevichathu - Mashed Jack fruit

Chakka Puzhukku / Chakka Vevichathu / Mashed Jack fruit

Unripe jack fruit - 1/4 th of a medium jack fruit, cleaned, pitted and roughly chopped
Grated coconut - 1.5 cup
Cumin seeds - 1/4 - 1/2 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Garlic - 2 - 3 small

Green chillies - 2 - 3 or red chilly powder - 1/2 - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 - 2 sprigs
Coconut oil - 1 tbsp

Salt - To taste

1. Boil the chopped jack fruit with enough water, few curry leaves and salt. Cover and cook until done, stirring in between.

2. Grind the coconut, turmeric powder, green chillies, garlic and cumin seeds to a coarse mixture.
3. When the jack fruit is done, add the ground coconut mixture and let it cook for a few minutes. Taste-check for salt. Switch off.
4. Add a few curry leaves and a tbsp of coconut oil. Serve hot with mulaku chammanthi, thenga chammanthi or fish curry.
